I recently fell in love with lip stains again after picking a couple up at the grocery store. I previously tried lip stains that were glossy or had a paint-like consistency, but I ended up loving the marker lip stains even more. They stay put, I can kiss my husband without leaving color all over his cheeks and lips and they don’t have the goopy residue like lipsticks…AWESOME! Here are two lip stains you can pick up at your local drugstore/grocery store: NYC Smudge Proof 16H Lip Stain and Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain. Here’s how they measure up side by side:
A couple more tips about lip stains that I discovered:
#1 With all bold lip colors (lip sticks, stains, etc.) use a foundation on your face especially around the mouth. It helps the color not to bleed and make it look like you have a cold sore 🙂 It also gives it a fresh, crisp line.
#2 Exfoliate your lips, even with just a washcloth and warm water if you don’t have time to do more than that. The worst is dry, peeling lips with color on them, because it draws attention to your mouth. Color shows any dry or dead skin on your lips, so gently exfoliate the lips first.
#3 I wouldn’t recommend putting foundation all over your lips and them applying the lip stain. I’ve often done this with lip sticks, but with marker lip stains it tends to goop up the tip and stop up the flow of ink more quickly. Also, the foundation blocks the color from seeping into the lips (lipsticks sit on top of lips, while stains seep in more).
I hope you fall in love with lip stain as much as I have! Let me know if you want me to review another lip stain or lip balm.
