“We turn not older with years,
but newer every day.”
I figured a little sparkle and shine was appropriate for a New Years post! Glitter and sequins make me feel strangely happy. Perhaps it’s the way they catch the light, or maybe because it reminds me of clothing and toys from my childhood. Whatever the reason, I love glitter and sparkly things! (Sounds nerdy, I know, but sometimes you just have to admit your inner child is still living on!) Beyond sparkles and confetti on New Years, it’s a time for reflection on the old and contemplating the new. When I graduated college, I remember I anticipated each New Year’s Eve and celebrated getting older. Now that I’m no longer in my early twenties, I have found myself wanting to prolong the start of a new year. Why is it that we dread age so much? (Thoughts + giveaway continued below…)

I’ll admit, I had amazing experiences and a lot of fun in college, but what about the wisdom and maturity I have now that I didn’t have then? Isn’t that more important than a wrinkle free face and dance parties with friends? The older I get, the more I realize I don’t know everything, and the more knowledge I seek to obtain. The more knowledge I obtain, the more I feel the need to continue gaining. The confidence and wisdom I have found since my early college days, has proved to be valuable each new year. I look forward to progressing instead of focusing on the past. Fear of age is something I have had to start constantly fighting, because it is true that we are “newer every day”, and we have the opportunity to have new experiences. So I challenge you to add “embrace your age” to your New Year’s Resolution list (whatever it may be). Not to focus on aging and reflect on youth; or not to wish the years would go faster to get to where you want to be, but simply enjoy the year and learn from what comes.
