I always pictured moms with a certain “mom” look. I’m not sure why, my mom was always fashionable, I still frequently shop her closet! However, fringe jackets, high-heeled booties and t-shirt dresses were never part of my vision of a pregnant woman. However, here I am…pregnant and still dressed in the same type of clothes I was wearing pre-pregnancy (except for in a size that seems 10x larger ;). I love that maternity boutiques now carry trendy maternity clothes, like distressed jeans, cute maternity dresses AND fringe jackets! It’s fun to be able to wear maternity clothes that I will still be able to use after losing the baby weight (which I hope will be soon after baby comes). However, there are two things I’ve learned the hard way about dressing for pregnancy.
#1 THE LONG OF IT: Your feet may grow– Luckily mine have stayed about the same size (knock on wood). However, they do swell a bit by the third trimester, especially near the end of the day. So wearing a tight shoe, is extremely uncomfortable! At the beginning of my pregnancy I started buying my shoes about a 1/2 size up, just in case. I figured they would fit even if my feet didn’t grow, but would fit if they grew/swelled a little. They have been perfect because they aren’t uncomfortable on my feet if they swell near the end of the day.
#2 THE SHORT OF IT: Dresses get shorter as your belly gets bigger–
Haha, this is something you can actually see in my above pictures
(which I didn’t notice until seeing these pictures actually)! I bought
this dress 6 weeks ago and it was longer on me then; now…well, you can
see. So make sure you get longer dresses with the idea in mind that
your dresses get shorter, especially in the front! I linked a longer
version of my dress above as well for you.
It’s crazy how much bigger I’ve gotten in the third trimester! Dressing for it has been tough, to say the least. Is there anything you want to know about pregnancy style? Other mistakes I’ve made, to go to items I’ve found? I’d love to hear if there is something specific any of you are looking for!
