FORM SPA COOLSCULPTING EVENT
When Form Spa asked if I would be interested in being their model for their CoolSculpting event, I jumped at the chance! I had been wanting to try CoolSculpting for awhile, so I decided this was the perfect opportunity to get rid of my C-Section overhang and extra belly fat from pregnancy. The number one question I’ve been asked about my experience is, “does CoolSculpting hurt?”; so I decided to write a post about my experience with CoolSculpting.
Usually the treatment is done is a private, relaxing room in the back where you can watch T.V. or nap, but the chair and machine had been moved to to the lobby for the event to make it easier for everyone to see the process. To be honest, I was a little nervous about being in front of everyone, because what if it was painful?! Would I be clenching my teeth as people watched me writhe in pain? That would be beyond embarrassing!
AND IT BEGINS…
After changing into a robe in the back room and having my stomach and C-Section area examined and marked with a marker; I climbed into the chair in the front room and patiently waited while they put thin gel patches on my stomach and explained to the people watching what they were doing. Truthfully, I was listening just as intently as everyone else was…after all, I wanted to know exactly what they were about to do to me!
The machine suctioned a long oval area of my stomach in, and then they put a U-shaped pillow underneath to keep it upright and comfortable. After the area was securely suctioned, they turned on the cooling.
DOES COOLSCULPTING HURT?
I sat there waiting for the cool feeling to turn into into pain. My stomach started feeling just a little cool, then after about 60 seconds, it started feeling very cold. Have you ever held an ice pack directly against your skin for a long time? It feels a lot like that. A tingly, pins and needles, somewhat uncomfortable cold feeling. I braced myself for the pins to turn into stabbing sensations…but the pain never came. After about three minutes, the area was completely numb and I couldn’t even feel it anymore! People kept asking me how I felt and if it hurt. I was so relieved that I could answer their questions without gritting my teeth. It didn’t hurt! Even during the first three minutes of the cooling, I was eating a plate of fruit, chatting with the people around me and working on my phone.
HOW IT WORKS
If you haven’t heard of it before, here’s a little explanation about what it does. CoolSculpting is a non-surgical procedure that freezes away fat. Since fat freezes at a higher temperature than the surrounding tissues, the controlled cooling can freeze the fat cells without harming the surrounding areas. After being crystallized, the cells die and your body naturally eliminates the dead cells.
I had heard that the most painful part was when the machine comes off and they massage the area, so I was a little concerned that maybe the worst was still to come. [Cue the ominous music…duh, duh, duh.]
When the machine comes off, it’s a little like ripping off a bandaid, it comes off quickly and stings just slightly (I was pretty much entirely numb though, so I really didn’t feel it much). Then the massaging starts. They told me the massaging is crucial, because it helps to break up and burst the frozen fat cells that haven’t died on their own yet. This part of the process has a dramatic effect on the final outcome, so they have to massage very vigorously! Again, I waited for the pain…
But instead of pain, it tickled like crazy! Okay, I’m a weirdo, I’m super ticklish. I suppose the massaging is a little uncomfortable, but I was still mostly numb and really didn’t think it was painful at all (I’m usually a wimp when someone massages me too hard)! Maybe it was because I was too concerned with not totally dissolving into giggles.
THE ANSWER IS: NO, IT DOESN’T HURT!
I did five sections total. The four sections of my stomach I did in the front room for the event, and the last area (my C-Section overhang), I got to relax in the back room for a little privacy. It was so nice! The room was dark and I watched a little Netflix and almost drifted off to sleep. If I had done all five treatments back there, I probably could have napped! I was seriously that easy and painless. So to answer the question, “does CoolSculpting hurt” my honest answer is no!
My whole stomach was still almost completely numb when I was driving home, so I still didn’t feel any pain. I felt extremely tired afterward and took a nap after lunch, but that nap was my only “downtime”. The area was pretty sore for the next few days, but I could still move around, bend down and function normally. Over the next few weeks, the numbness gradually wore off and typically I would get an itching sensation as my feeling came back.
Here’s a little video I recorded during and after my first sessions with my thoughts on how CoolSculpting felt.
Now that it has been about a month, I still can’t believe how easy the whole process was! I kept thinking, is it really this easy to get rid of fat?! If I didn’t know the science behind it, I would seriously think it was magic. It typically takes about 3-4 months for your body to eliminate the dead cells and to see the full results. However, I actually saw a difference really quickly; especially on my C-Section area! Within a week, my C-Section area had already decreased by almost half and after a month it has gone down significantly more. It took a little longer to see the results on the middle part of my stomach; I started noticing a difference there after about three weeks and am still seeing progress as more times goes by. Usually 2-3 treatments per area delivers the best results, so if you treat the area once, it is a good idea to schedule a second session.
I have honestly been thrilled with the results so far and I absolutely loved the place I got it done! The people at Form Spa were extremely helpful, made me feel comfortable and were honest and informative during my preliminary consultation. (Consultations are a huge make it or break it for me when I’m considering permanent changes.) Not to mention, the spa is beautifully decorated and the private rooms are luxurious and relaxing. It was an all around good experience and I would 100% recommend getting CoolSculpting done here!
Once more time goes by and the rest of my fat cells are eliminated, I’ll update this post or write a follow up post with before and after photos. So stay tuned and send any questions my way!
